Median Lethal Dose or LD50

In toxicology, median lethal dose or Lethal Dose 50% (LD50) is the amount of radiation or any other toxic substance that can kill half the members of a test population. Testing for LD50 also requires a specific amount of time. The test is used to determine a substance’s acute toxicity.
