For a while, I found myself living on decongestants and antihistamines, so I decided to find natural, earth-friendly ways to treat my sinus issues.
My sinuses are constantly out of control. Having a deviated septum, I am constantly battling sinus infections and inflammation. For a while, I found myself living on decongestants and antihistamines, so I decided to find natural, earth-friendly ways to treat my sinus issues. Some work very well, and others only work when my sinuses are mildly irritated. Here’s what I found:

Neti pot
A neti pot works the best for me. A neti pot uses warm salt water that goes throughout the entire sinus cavity, washing, moistening and soothing the sinuses. You can find a neti pot at any pharmacy, and you can make your own solution at home with one cup of warm water and a half-teaspoon of sea salt. This approach really opens up the sinuses and relieves sinus pressure and headaches.
Eating spicy foods is another approach that I found works very well. Go to the grocery store and buy some wasabi, chili pepper or Tabasco sauce and douse your favorite food with some spice. Take a big bite and sit back as your sinuses drain.
If you think you may have a sinus infection, make a homemade nasal spray. Buy a reusable nasal spray from a pharmacy. Put half a teaspoon of sea salt, 10 drops of tea tree oil, 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract and fill to the top with warm water. Use this nasal spray two to three times a day to kill off the infection. Both tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract have natural anti-fungal properties and act as antibiotics. Eat two cloves of garlic a day as well to help the body fight off the sinus infection.
If anyone has tried everything when it comes to sinus disease, it’s me. Since I was a kid, my sinuses have caused me nothing but trouble, so I’ve been on every medication and attempted every natural treatment I could find. These are the most effective natural ways to treat the sinus cavity in my opinion. Give them a try and let me know what you think.

Always great to see more props for natural treatments! Sinus infections are an all-too-frequent topic as most of my extend family suffers from one extent or another. There have been many things tried and discussed, including acupuncture, changes in diet, neti pot, balloon sinuplasty, you name it! But one thing that we all agree on is the importance of keeping those nasal passages clean! This is good practice even when you’re NOT having sinus trouble! Thanks again for this post and have a great day!
