Is Energy Star Really Worth It?

October 19, 2009

If you were standing here with me, I would scream as loud as I could, “YES!” Energy Star products are worth it!

IsEnergyStarReallyWorthIt 300x162 Is Energy Star Really Worth It?If you were standing here with me, I would scream as loud as I could, “YES!” Energy Star products are worth it for two very important reasons: You will save money, and the environment will benefit from less greenhouse gas emissions. The federal government-run program began in 1992 improving the energy consumption of computers and monitors, but has taken over virtually every area of housewares, electronics and appliances.

Energy Star has successfully delivered energy and cost savings across the country, saving businesses, organizations and consumers about $19 billion in 2008 alone, according to energystar.gov. The typical Energy Star electronic product will save as little as 13% and as much as 110%, depending on the product.

Most Energy Star products offer better performance and a longer lifespan than conventional counterparts. Energy Star products are typically on the higher end of the cost spectrum because of their outstanding quality and performance. They have become the leader in design, style and look in many markets, not the follower. Knowing that an Energy Star product has to undergo scrutinizing testing leaves you with the peace of mind that the product has been tested and proven to not only save electricity, but to also last a lifetime.

My wife and I always try to purchase products with the Energy Star emblem. Some of the electronics and appliances we currently have are conventional, so we make the best use out of them as possible until they need to be replaced. But, when the time comes to buy new electronics or appliances, you’ll find us in the Energy Star section for sure.
